Follow a regular workout routine. Once the plan is started, you want to avoid having to constantly change it up. The best way to benefit from your workouts is to create a great routine, and repeat it several times per week. Don’t keep giving up a workout only to try again with something different next week.
If you play a defensive position such as a linebacker or defensive lineman, learn to tip the ball away from the receiver. The best way to learn this is by watching film of successful tips and practicing with your teammates. When the ball is thrown, look at its trajectory and run toward where it will land. Then, jump and smack at the ball as it passes above you.
Follow through on the kick must be given extra attention. The kicker’s head must be down with eyes focused on the foot actually make contact with the ball. Proper padding for the lower body is a must. Pants can be purchased with pads built in or with pockets in them to slide the pads into them. No matter what type of pants you decide on, make sure that you have pads to protect the tailbone, knees, thighs and hips.
If your main goal is football is to be fast, realize that speed is only acquired by those with strong core muscles. All the movements techniques in the world will not help you if your body is not conditioned by proper weight training. Focus on the basics, including quads, glutes and hamstrings.
Become a student of the game prior to taking your place on the field. Understand the rules and you will play better. You can learn about football by watching a game on television, picking up a book on the subject or even going and watching your local high school football team play.
Continually make your work outs harder. Don’t just run, but run carrying weights. Don’t just do squats, do them while holding a barbell. Do these work outs under the guidance of your coach or a trainer so that you don’t end up injuring yourself, but do push yourself to your limits.
Build up both your strength and endurance. Football is a very physical game. If you are not in shape, it will show, and you may have to finish the game from the sideline if you cannot keep up. Establish a safe workout routine that you can do in the off-season to keep on top of your game.
Before joining a fantasy football league, make sure you are totally committed. You can’t quit the league in the middle. You cannot be there at the start and then quit towards the middle. Quitting will have a negative effect on the drafting as well as other players’ impression of you.
There will be times that opposing teams play rough or target you. If you think that they are deliberately trying to cause you physical harm, tell your coach. Do not retaliate on the field. It could lead to injuries, cause your team penalties and possibly get you thrown out of the game.
